Welcome to Mia’s Elite School of Dance:
Founded in 2000 by owner and director Mia Cottingham, Mia’s Elite School of Dance has proudly served dancers across the Kansas City area for over two decades. With a commitment to excellence, creativity, and community, Mia and her award-winning faculty have provided hundreds of students with exceptional, one-of-a-kind dance opportunities.
We offer classes for every kind of dancer—from our tiniest twos and threes just beginning their journey, to advanced performers chasing their dreams, and even those who are simply young at heart. Whether you’re dancing for fun, training for the stage, or building lifelong skills, Mia’s Elite is where passion meets purpose.

Meet Mia Cottingham
Founder & Director, Mia’s Elite School of Dance
Hi, I’m Mia Cottingham—owner, director, and proud founder of Mia’s Elite School of Dance. My love for dance began at the age of 10, and from that moment on, I never looked back. Throughout high school, I competed extensively, earning numerous awards and top honors that helped shape the dancer—and teacher—I am today. I later earned my associate’s degree in Liberal Arts from Longview Community College, and soon after, followed my dream of opening a studio built on structure, dedication, passion, and a strong work ethic. In 2000, that dream became a reality.
Since opening our doors, I’ve poured my heart into making Mia’s Elite an award-winning studio known for high standards, creative excellence, and a genuine love for the art of dance. I’ve had the joy of teaching students of all ages and have also served as a substitute teacher for the Belton School District. I’ve worked closely with several high school dance teams—including Belton, Harrisonville, and Ray-Pec—and have choreographed multiple musicals for Harrisonville High School, earning several prestigious Cappie Awards for my work.
Outside the studio, I’ve traveled as a judge for national competitions like Showbiz and Primetime, and my students have consistently earned top placements, titles, and special awards at both regional and national levels. I’ve also been honored with multiple choreography awards, a reflection of the creativity and heart I bring to every routine.
What fuels me the most is the opportunity to challenge my dancers, help them grow, and share the incredible joy that dance has brought into my life. I come to class every day full of energy, ready to inspire—and be inspired by—my students. My goal is to not only ignite their passion for dance, but to help each one become the very best dancer—and person—they can be.
